A Case Study of a Student's Imagination (Grades 1-12)

Forms made of clay. Surfaces treated with paint, modge podge, gorilla glue, pencils, thumbtacks, and anything else I could find in the studio!

During the semester I was been consumed by an education seminar on teaching, learning, and curriculum development. Throughout my days in the classroom and nights working on my own personal unit plan, I began to explore how art can be used as a tool, across disciplines, as an alternative way to convey learning or share knowledge. Art has the potential to give voice to students who may not be able to or may not be comfortable expressing themselves.Unfortunately, I have also observed the lack of support and time spent on visual arts after elementary school. Student’s imaginations are transformed to fit into a box that will make them successful within the context of the “one-size-fits-all” methods of the classroom.
